Justin Michaels was born in Delaware, but was raised primarily in Virginia and Florida. A career in music wasn’t a path that ran in the family, instead his roots were built around hard work, sports, and small-town values. With both his father and stepfather competing in baseball at a high level, the expectation might have been that athletics would shape his future as he pursued baseball in high school. Instead, life had other plans.

At 16 years old, a cousin introduced him to country music and took him to his first concert featuring Tyler Farr, Florida Georgia Line, and Jason Aldean. Afterwards, the two talked about one day making music together. It was a conversation that would leave a lasting mark.

Before that dream ever had a chance to take shape, tragedy struck. Just before his 18th birthday, Justin’s cousin was killed in a car accident. The loss changed everything.

Carrying the weight of that promise and the memory of someone he loved, Justin told a friend he needed to learn how to write songs. For months, he repeated the same thing: “I’ve got to figure this out.” 

What followed was quiet years of pursuit that few people saw coming. While building a successful career in excavation and disaster recovery, he spent nearly four years teaching himself the craft of songwriting, working in silence and developing his voice long before Nashville knew his name.

When Justin finally stepped into the music world, many of the people around him had no idea he had taken this step. The dream had been growing behind the scenes for years.

Today, Justin Michaels brings a blue-collar perspective to country music, drawing inspiration from real-life experiences, loss, perseverance, family, friendship, and the places that shaped him. Whether he’s spending time outdoors hunting and fishing, traveling with friends, or standing on a stage sharing his story, his music reflects the people and moments that matter most.
